BERLIN GLOBAL

Berlin as part of an interconnected world

The Berlin exhibition at the Humboldt Forum will be on display on the first floor of the Humboldt Forum from 2021. On about 4000 square metres, the Stadtmuseum Berlin and Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH will tell the story of the complex fabric of connections between Berlin and the world. Spacious installations and atmospheric stagings introduce visitors to thematic areas that reflect Berlin's diversity.

Berlin has been in exchange with the world for centuries. The city, its people and incidents emanating from it have changed the world, and at the same time global occurrances have an impact on Berlin - then as now. Based on current issues, developments and problems, the Berlin exhibition takes up selected topics and shows the city as part of a historically and presently diverse world of networks.

Exhibition rooms

The history of the city is not told chronologically: The exhibition rooms focus on the aspects of revolution, free space, borders, pleasure, war, fashion and interconnectedness. These aspects are relevant for other metropolises, too, but in this combination they are typical for the city of Berlin. Some cross-cutting themes such as colonialism or National Socialism are taken up in several rooms of the exhibition. The „history of place“, which is a theme in several exhibition areas of the Humboldt Forum, also plays an important role in various contexts in the Berlin exhibition.

Co-production

The Berlin exhibition at the Humboldt Forum is a co-production between Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH and the Stadtmuseum Berlin. The concept and content of the exhibition will be developed by a team led by Paul Spies, Chief Curator of Berlin at the Humboldt Forum and Director of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin. Kulturprojekte Berlin is realising the production of the exhibition and is responsible for communication and outreach work.
