BerlinZEIT
A new permanent exhibition gives visitors a compact, easy-to-understand picture of the city from the Ice Age to the present.
Spread over two floors of the Märkisches Museum, BerlinZEIT presents the city's most formative moments: This fully dual-lingual exhibition offers entertainment, inspiration and orientation for new and old Berliners alike, and for anyone who'd like to become one!
Understanding Berlin – in just one hour
Exceptional items, multimedia offerings and hands-on stations guide visitors through the historical moments that have shaped the city up until the present day – all in just one hour. This experience makes it clear that the only thing that stays the same in Berlin is change. Berlin's history is told as the history of the people who live here. Even people who wouldn't usually be seen as key historical figures have their say.
The exhibition is accompanied by a lively audio guide where the city itself talks to visitors. The Berliner rapper Romano also shares his very special view of Berlin's history. The audio guide available as online app.
More than ever before, visitors will have the opportunity to get glimpses into Stadtmuseum Berlin's collections. There is an alternating object of the month series as well as a Photo-Graphic Cabinet that displays graphics and photographs on various themes. The first featured artist is Heinrich Zille.
As an exhibition publication, "DAMALS Galerie: Berlin – Tragik und Glanz einer Metropole" is available for 9.90 euros in the Märkisches Museum shop (German language edition only).
