Berlin’s Middle
Permanent exhibition in the Museum Nikolaikirche about the history of the medieval building and the city.
The St. Nicholas' Church (Nikolaikirche) uses a vivid presentation of the historical interior features to illustrate the former functions of the building. Various thematic sections focus on different aspects of the building's content:
- Searching for traces: the early history of the city of Berlin
- From natural stone to bricks: the story of how the Nikolaikirche was built
- Excursions: the Nikolaiviertel yesterday and today
- World-famous: church songs from St Nikolai
- A changing liturgy: religious artworks and liturgical equipment
- Burial culture in the church interior: the Berliners’ “Pantheon”
- Lost and rediscovered: the treasure of coins in the steeple ball
An audio guide in six languages and interactive media stations in four languages reveal the monument and convey in-depth exhibition content. Various participatory exhibition elements, learning and experience sites, and inclusive activities are provided. For example, visitors' senses are activated by an audio-commentated tour that presents tactile exhibits.
